The Sociolinguistics of English-Urdu Code-Mixing in Speech

This dissertation studies English-Urdu code-mixing in the speech of educated Pakistani speakers. The study is divided into five parts. The first part is the “Introduction” in which the background of the research plan has been described. The second part is “Development towards Code-Mixing” and “Code-Switching” in which the development of Code-Mixing and Code-Switching from a single use of Urdu is given. Finally, the theories and studies of Code-mixing are reviewed. The third part focuses on the data collection and methodology of research. The fourth part is about the analysis of data on Code-Mixing. The data is analyzed according to different social and situational variables. The fifth part is “Conclusion”. And it represents the findings of the research.
